WELCOME!

Dee Why Shotokan Karate Club (DYSKC) was established in January 2013 on Sydney's Northern Beaches by Jon Rabinovitz sensei (4th dan), Our karate club has become a tightly knit group of dedicated karateka and for many, the club has become an extension of their family. Furthermore, without exception, everyone who has stayed with us has made solid progress on their personal karate journeys.

In 2023, Jon sensei transferred coordination and instruction duties to two of his long-term students Jim Vafakos (1st dan) and Scott Martin (2nd dan), although Jon sensei remains very much part of the Dee Why dojo taking regular classes and overseeing gradings.

We continue the tradition of the legendary Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa and teach his inspired and comprehensive syllabus from first principles.

The club is registered with Shotokan Karate International Australia which in turn falls under Shotokan Karate International Federation, now headed by Kancho Nobuaki Kanazawa.

The syllabus is progressive and consists of Kihon (basics), Kata (patterns) and Kumite (sparring). Self Defence aimed at helping students recognize and deal with tricky situations is also covered.

The study of karate has numerous benefits in terms of physical and mental well-being, and it is a journey often enjoyed by several members of the same family.

Make friends with us on Facebook which may give you some insight into the special culture of our club, which is warm, welcoming, and friendly.... but note that we take our karate seriously and train hard!

Training times are Mondays and Thursdays (7:00 pm - 8:30 pm), at the Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club.

Why not try a complimentary training session and see for yourself what goes on at Dee Why Shotokan, one of the best-located dojos in the world!
